London, the leading global financial hub and a seat for financial innovation, is once again the venue to launch an alternative financing mechanism through the use of Sukuk, a Shariah-compliant Islamic financial certificate or bond.
London Hosts ‘Sukuk Day’. Curzon Corporate Finance Ltd, jointly with Umex Capital Markets Group Ltd, will host on May 7th and 8th, a “Sukuk Day” seminar in London. The focus of the seminar is twofold: one to promote the use of securitised Sukuk as an alternative funding mechanism for companies in all industry sectors, irrespective of the size of the company, and the other to educate the investment community on the use of Sukuk, as an alternative asset class for their investment portfolio.
Sukuk instruments act as a bridge between their issuers – sovereigns and corporations – and a wide pool of investors, many of whom are seeking to diversify their holdings beyond traditional asset classes.
The ‘Sukuk Day’ seminar is structured in two days, with focus on potential Sukuk issuers and investors and will be presented by market professionals and Sharia scholars.
On May 7th, the event with a focus on potential Sukuk issuers, will provide information on Sukuk, as an alternative financing vehicle to address the much needed financing needs for companies, irrespective of size in all industry groups and business sectors.
On May 8th, a special focus will be on the process of investing in Sukuk and the access to these instruments as listed securities – e.g. equity offering, project finance, trade finance, infrastructure finance, lease financing , REITs and more. Investors will find out how Sukuk may be used as an alternative asset class for investment portfolios.
Through this seminar, Curzon CF aims to educate and inform companies on the diverse possibilities of use for Sukuk and their structuring and applications – e.g. equity participation, project finance, trade finance, infrastructure finance, property finance, and more. Sukuk is the Arabic meaning for ‘certificate’. It is an Islamic financial certificate, similar to a bond in conventional finance that complies with Sharia, Islamic religious law.There are many types of Sukuk.
